LITOMYŠL / The event with the provocative name Kick Up Your School will take place from 24 to 26 February 2019 on Castle Hill in Litomyšl. Again this year, the event enjoys huge interest from the participants and despite the increase in capacity, all places are occupied. More than 170 people interested in education from all over the Czech Republic will come to Litomyšl and three days of lectures, workshops and discussions await them. Most of them will be teachers and principals of primary schools, for whom the event is primarily intended. The names of the speakers and lecturers are also worth noting. There will be more than 28 of them and they include Ondřej Liška - former Minister of Education, Martin Roman - former CEO of ČEZ and Škoda Holding a.s., Bob Kartous - pioneer of innovation in education, Susanna Bäckmann - education expert from Finland and Petr Hájek - Architect of the Year 2018.
Although the conference is already fully booked, there is an enticing programme for the public without the need for registration. The opening of the festival itself is already open, which will take place on Sunday 24 February 2019 at 14:00 in the castle riding hall. This will be followed by a series of short inspirational lectures featuring Ondřej Liška, Petr Hájek, Břetislav Svozil, Robert Čapek and Světlana Čiberová. After the break, the programme will continue with a discussion moderated by Bob Kartous on an extremely interesting topic - teacher education. One of the guests will be Karel Rýdl - Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Pardubice. The whole Sunday programme can be purchased for a single price of 100 CZK.
The real highlight of the festival, however, will be the programme on Monday evening, when Martin Veselovský from the DVTV internet television will conduct interviews on the topic of education from 18:00. One of his guests will be youtuber Karel Kovář alias KOVY. You can also buy a separate ticket for this part of the festival for 200 CZK. Both tickets will be available on the spot. They can be purchased in advance at the information centre in Litomyšl or by emailing info@zamecke-navrsi.cz.
Kick Up Your School is a festival of education designed to provide school principals, teachers, parents, students and interested members of the public with an opportunity to better understand the current trends and relationships shaping schools and possible ways of running schools in the future. It is an opportunity to meet not only leaders in the field of education and schooling, but also many inspiring personalities. The aim is to convey inspiration and impetus for real change.
One of the aims of the Kick Start Your School Festival is to build continuity of education on Castle Hill. Litomyšl is not only a city of culture, but also of education. For example, one of the first printing presses in the Czech territory was located on the Castle Hill, a monastery operated here, and for several years there was even a bishopric. The Piarist Order, which founded a school for poor boys here, used very advanced teaching methods for its time. Today, there is a faculty of restoration and a secondary school of education in Litomyšl. The conference is thus being held in the beautiful grounds of a UNESCO World Heritage Site in a place where people and their ideas have always met.
