Architectural and building tours
The Chateau Hill, a contributory organization of the town of Litomyšl, now offers visitors to the town a sightseeing tour focused on learning about modern architecture in a historical environment. The architectural tour is mainly devoted to the buildings completed within the framework of the Chateau Hill Revitalization Project. It presents the new spaces in their historical context and introduces the concepts of their creators.
Litomyšl, as one of the most beautiful historic towns in the Czech Republic with an unmistakable genius loci, is also famous for its sensitive application of quality contemporary architecture directly in the historic core. The harmonious combination of the old and the new that this relatively small town contains can now be better experienced thanks to architectural tours organised by the Chateau Hill, a new contributory organisation of the town of Litomyšl. The tour will introduce visitors to the Chateau Brewery and the adjacent Riding Hall, the first buildings to be renovated as part of the Chateau Hill Revitalisation Project. The unique design of the Dining Hall with an inserted sliding laminate module from the workshop of HŠH architects or the concept of the building as a living organism according to the architect Josef Pleskot is presented in the tour together with the historical background of the treatment of these buildings. The concept and route of the architectural tours will continuously evolve along with the gradually changing Castle Hill.
The tour is intended for the general public as well as for professionals interested in the subject. It is based, among other things, on the idea that human acceptance of modern architecture is not a given and is often a complex process of tuning and learning. The perception of postmodern architectural expression is shaped not only by the setting of the viewer, but also by the language of architecture itself, the artistic concept of its creators. The architects' visions are the main subject of the guided part of the tour, alongside the historical context.
